Police arrest 2 in Banihal, seize heroin
Ramban, Aug 11: Two men were arrested in Banihal on Monday after police said they were caught with heroin during a patrol and traffic check.
Police sources said during a routine patrolling and traffic regulation duty at T-Chowk Banihal two suspicious pedestrian approaching from Railway Chowk to T- Chowk Banihal attempted to flee upon noticing the police party. However, the alert police officers promptly chased and apprehended both the individuals after a brief pursuit.
Police said on their physical search, one individual, Umar Jaan, son of Khazar Mohd Mir, resident of Bemina, Srinagar, had 5.67 grams of heroin recovered, and 3.95 grams of heroin were recovered from the possession of Arif Iqbal, son of Mohd Iqbal, resident of Shangus Chani, Anantnag, with both getting arrested on the spot.
Police have registered a case, FIR No. 84 of 2025, under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Banihal.
Police said an investigation into the case was currently underway to prove backward and forward linkages.
Senior Superintendent of Police Ramban, Arun Gupta, said Ramban police was resolute to eradicate the drug menace from the society.
