Police arrest 2 drug peddlers, contraband substance recovered
Srinagar, Oct 25: In a significant action against drug menace, Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested two drug peddlers in Pulwama & Shopian and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police spokesperson said that in Pulwama, a police party led by SHO Police Station Kakapora at a checkpoint established at Pahoo Gundipora Crossing intercepted a vehicle (i-10) bearing registration number JK01N/5539. The driver has been identified as Bilal Ahmad Sofi, son of Abdul Rehman Sofi, resident of Summerbug Lasjan. During checking, 41 grams of Charas like contraband substance was recovered from dash box of the vehicle. The accused was arrested on the spot, and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was also seized. In this connection, a case FIR No. 67/2025 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act stands registered at Police Station Kakapora and investigation has been taken up.
He also said that in Shopian, a police party of Police Station Imam Sahib at a checkpoint established at Hillow Handew crossing, intercepted a suspicious person who on seeing naka party tried to flee from the spot and was apprehended tactfully. He has been identified as Ab Majeed Chopan resident of Frasdab, Charishreef Budgam. During search, 09 Sticks of charas like substance weighing approximately 328 grams were recovered from his possession and was subsequently arrested. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 33/2025 under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Imam SCaseahib and investigations have been initiated.
Police urged the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112. They also requested them to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, and assured the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law.
