Police act against illegal mining operations in south Kashmir; 7 vehicles, 4 JCBs seized
Srinagar, Dec 02: In its sustained efforts to curb illegal mining activities, Jammu and Kashmir Police have seized four JCBs and seven vehicles involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals in Shopian and Pulwama.
A police spokesperson said that during routine patrolling, a police party from Police Station Shopian intercepted two JCBs and one dumper found extracting minerals illegally without valid royalty documents. Accordingly, FIR No. 259/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian and investigation has been initiated.
In Pulwama, Police teams from Police Station Litter conducted focused drive checks at Rambi Ara, village Nikloora, and successfully intercepted two JCB machines, five tractors, and one loader involved in illegal extraction of minerals. Following the seizure, FIR No. 104/2025 has been registered, spokesperson said.
Police reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the natural resources and ensuring strict action against those involved in illegal mining. They urged the public to extend cooperation by reporting such activities.
Police stated that stringent legal action shall be taken against violators.
