PMGSY project in Rajouri’s LoC villages pivotal for border population: Mian Altaf
Rajouri, Jan 31: In a major push to strengthen road infrastructure in border areas, the Government under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) has taken up a prestigious road project worth Rs 29.5 crore in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The project, spanning over 12 kilometres, aims to significantly improve road connectivity in villages located along the Line of Control (LoC). This is the first-of-its-kind road project in the LoC belt of Rajouri and is expected to transform the poor connectivity scenario in remote and border villages. Upon completion, nearly ten LoC villages will receive direct road access to the Rajouri district headquarters, substantially reducing their dependence on existing LoC roads. The new road is also being viewed as strategically important from a defence and security perspective.
The work on the project was formally kick-started by Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmed, accompanied by MLAs of Rajouri and Thanamandi, Iftkhar Ahmed and Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, in the presence of senior officers of the concerned department. Addressing the occasion, the MP directed the executing agency to ensure timely completion of the project while maintaining the highest standards of quality.
He emphasised that the road will not only ease daily commuting for residents but also play a crucial role in socio-economic development and improving access to essential services in the border belt.
Local residents have welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that the long-pending demand for reliable road connectivity in the LoC villages will finally be fulfilled through this landmark project.
The road has its start point at Challas and will move through different localities on LoC before connecting with existing border road.
Earlier, the villagers of these border hamlets including Ratal, Baisali, Parran had to travel atleast fifteen kilometres extra via border road to reach district headquarter but they will be able to complete their journey through direct travel after completion of this road. Earlier, at Dr. Raj Kumar Thappa Memorial Conference Hall in Dak Bungalow Rajouri, MP Mian Altaf Ahmed inaugurated seven recently built PMGSY roads and laid foundation stone of twenty four other road projects.
