New Delhi, Nov 14: The government has announced a fresh expansion of digital services and outreach under the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi scheme, ahead of the release of its 21st instalment on 19 November 2025.

The programme, launched in February 2019, provides Rs 6,000 annually to eligible farmer families and has so far transferred more than Rs 3.70 lakh crore to over 11 crore beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer. More than a quarter of the recipients are women.

Officials said PM-KISAN support reaches farmers with verified land records, Aadhaar-authenticated bank accounts and completed e-KYC. The scheme’s digital infrastructure, built around Aadhaar-linked payments, has eliminated middlemen and enabled seamless delivery of financial assistance across the country. Farmers can now complete e-KYC through OTP, biometric or facial authentication. These options, the Agriculture Ministry said, are designed to make access “hassle-free”, especially in remote areas.

The PM-KISAN mobile app has been upgraded to allow farmers to check their status, complete e-KYC, and even help others finish verification using facial authentication. The portal pmkisan.gov.in now offers self-registration, a “Know Your Status” feature, and integration with Common Service Centres, while India Post Payments Bank continues to help farmers open Aadhaar-linked accounts. Grievance redressal mechanisms have been strengthened through the portal, CPGRAMS and the AI-powered Kisan-eMitra chatbot, which supports 11 Indian languages, voice interaction, automatic language detection and instant guidance on schemes.

Village-level saturation drives are underway to ensure all eligible landowning farmers are enrolled. A study by the International Food Policy Research Institute in 2019 found that PM-KISAN had increased agricultural investment, eased credit constraints and enhanced farmers’ ability to manage productive risks. Beneficiaries have also used the income support for education, healthcare and household needs. The Agriculture Ministry has introduced a new Farmer Registry to streamline access to all welfare schemes and reduce procedural bottlenecks. Officials said these reforms reflect the government’s broader push to strengthen farmer welfare and deepen the reach of digital public infrastructure in rural India.
