New Delhi, Aug 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kyiv today aboard the ‘Rail Force One’ train from Poland, marking the beginning of an important visit to Ukraine. He was welcomed at the Kyiv railway station by the First Deputy Foreign Minister. During his stay, the Prime Minister took the opportunity to meet with members of the Indian community in Ukraine.
Upon his arrival, Prime Minister Modi paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at the ‘Oasis of Peace’ park in Kyiv. In a tweet, he reflected on Gandhi’s enduring legacy, stating,
“The ideals of Bapu are universal and give hope to millions. May we all follow the path he showed to humanity.” Modi’s tribute underscored Gandhi’s message of peace as a timeless solution to contemporary global challenges.
Accompanied by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Modi also visited the Martyrologist Exposition on children at the National Museum of History of Ukraine in Kyiv. The exhibit, which honours the young lives lost in the ongoing conflict, left a profound impact on the Indian leader.
“Conflict is particularly devastating for young children. My heart goes out to the families of children who lost their lives, and I pray that they find the strength to endure their grief,” Modi expressed, visibly moved by the poignant display. As a mark of respect, he placed a toy in memory of the children who perished.
