PM Modi will come to inaugurate new building of IIM Jammu: Pradhan
Jammu, Dec 28: Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan Thursday announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would inaugurate the new building complex of Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Jammu soon.
“Because of the commitment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a number of new educational institutions have come up in J&K. IIM Jammu is an example of this. Following a decision, it (IIM) was opened in 2016 in Jammu. Today I’ve inspected its new building. After a few days, the Prime Minister himself would dedicate this building to the nation. He will come to inaugurate it,” Pradhan said, while speaking to the media at IIM, Jammu.
He said, “Besides IIM, Jammu; the construction of new buildings of IIT, Jammu; AIIMS, Jammu; AIIMS, Srinagar is underway. We are also contemplating to construct a new campus of NIT Srinagar, which was already there, to strengthen its infrastructure. Similarly good progress is there in the case of Central University Jammu and its counterpart in Srinagar. J&K had already carved a niche for itself among the states having good educational institutions imparting quality education. We are carrying forward this momentum.”
Lauding youth talent of J&K, Pradhan said that the government was making all out efforts to provide them with an exposure to national level quality institutions of higher, technical education to further hone their skills and excel in academics.
“At the same time, we want the youth from other parts of India to come here and join these institutions to understand the ecosystem of J&K. This is the basic objective of these national institutions. IIM Jammu has made qualitative improvement. I’ve suggested to them that in the days to come the IIM Jammu students should conduct an in-depth research and futuristic analysis about the heritage of J&K, including Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, Amarnath Yatra, Kashmir’s handicrafts, garden, horticulture. Today’s youth have a vision for the future. Even the Prime Minister has sought suggestions from the youth to come out with innovative ideas to realise the objective of “Viksit Bharat.” Youth will make it possible,” the Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said.
Earlier, Pradhan addressed the students and had an in-depth discussion on the ViksitBharat@2047 initiative, a visionary programme aimed at shaping the educational and skill development landscape in India by the year 2047.
Hosted by the Indian Institute of Management Jammu (IIM) Jammu, Pradhan’s visit included a comprehensive review of ongoing construction activities.
The event was presided over by Padmashri Dr Milind P Kamble, chairman, Board of Governors, IIM Jammu; Prof B S Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu; Prof Jabir Ali, Dean Academics, Cmdr Kesavan Baskkaran, Chief Administrative Officer, IIM Jammu along with officials from the ministry, faculty, officers, staff and students of the Institute.
