PM Modi transfers Rs 7500 crore to 75 lakh women in Bihar
New Delhi, Sep 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana of Bihar via video conferencing and directly transferred Rs 10,000 each into the bank accounts of 75 lakh women, amounting to Rs 7500 crore.
Greeting participants on Navratri, PM Modi said, “Today marks a truly significant milestone for the women and daughters of Bihar. When a woman engages in employment or self-employment, her dreams gain new wings and her respect in society grows.”
He underlined the role of Jan Dhan accounts in making such direct transfers possible.
“Had the government not resolved to launch the Jan Dhan Yojana eleven years ago, had over 30 crore women not opened bank accounts under the scheme, and had these accounts not been linked to mobile phones and Aadhaar, it would not have been possible to transfer such funds directly into their bank accounts today. Without this system, the money would have been lost in transit, resulting in grave injustice to the beneficiaries,” the PM said.
Calling the scheme a partnership of trust, he said, “A brother finds true happiness when his sister is healthy, prosperous, and her family is economically strong. Today two brothers, myself and Shri Nitish Kumar, are working together for the service, prosperity, and dignity of the women of Bihar.”
PM Modi explained that each family in Bihar will have at least one woman beneficiary under the scheme.
“Starting with an initial support of Rs 10,000, the scheme can provide up to Rs 2 lakh based on the success of the enterprise. Women can open shops selling groceries, utensils, cosmetics, toys, and stationery, or take up cattle rearing and poultry farming, for which training will be provided,” he said.
The PM linked the initiative to the Centre’s Lakhpati Didi campaign, saying, “The Central Government has set a target of creating 3 crore Lakhpati Didis across the country, and over 2 crore women have already achieved this milestone. The day is not far when Bihar will have the highest number of Lakhpati Didis in the country.”
He also contrasted today’s Bihar with the “lantern era”.
“During opposition rule, women bore the brunt of lawlessness and corruption. Roads were broken, bridges were non-existent, and pregnant women could not reach hospitals. Under the leadership of Shri Nitish Kumar, the rule of law has been restored in Bihar, and women have been the primary beneficiaries of this change,” PM Modi said.
He said that the progress of women leads to the progress of society as a whole.
“I once again congratulate the people of Bihar on the launch of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana,” the PM said.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, and other dignitaries attended the programme, witnessed by over one crore women across the state.
