PM Modi to honour soldiers, launch Shinkun La Tunnel project
New Delhi, July 25: On the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Kargil War Memorial on Thursday at around 9:20 am to pay tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty during the Kargil War.
In addition to honouring the fallen heroes, the Prime Minister would virtually initiate the first blast of the Shinkun La Tunnel project.
The Shinkun La Tunnel project involves the construction of a 4.1 km long twin-tube tunnel at an altitude of around 15,800 feet on the Nimu-Padam-Darcha Road.
This ambitious project aims to provide all-weather connectivity to Leh, making it the highest tunnel in the world once completed.
The Shinkun La Tunnel is expected to significantly enhance the efficiency of military logistics, enabling swift movement of armed forces and equipment.
Furthermore, it promises to spur economic and social development in the Ladakh region by ensuring year-round accessibility.
