PM Modi, Starmer meet business leaders to boost India-UK trade ties post-CETA signing

New Delhi, Jul 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer held an interaction with top Indian and British business leaders on Thursday, shortly after the signing of the landmark India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). The meeting brought together industry leaders from a wide range of sectors including health, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, gems and jewellery, energy, manufacturing, telecom, IT, logistics, textiles, and financial services — industries seen as vital engines of growth and employment in both countries. The two Prime Ministers hailed the expansion of bilateral trade and investment in recent years and urged the business community to fully leverage the new opportunities emerging from the CETA.

The agreement, they said, would not only stimulate trade and innovation but also strengthen business confidence and bolster global economic momentum.

Modi and Starmer jointly visited a curated showcase of flagship products and technologies from both nations, featuring high-end jewellery, engineering goods, consumer products, and advanced technological solutions. Business representatives welcomed the agreement, calling it a transformative step in the India–UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They voiced hope that it would deepen ties across trade, emerging technologies, innovation, education, research, and healthcare. Both leaders reiterated their commitment to supporting businesses of all sizes in utilizing the CETA’s potential and fostering stronger, long-term economic cooperation.
