PM Modi slams Congress for divisive politics
New Delhi, Oct 9: Prime Minister lays foundation stone for various development projects in Maharashtra worth over Rs 7600 crore. During the foundation stone laying ceremony for various development projects in his speech on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the election results in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir. He praised the BJP’s victory in Haryana, calling it historic as the party was elected for a third consecutive term.
“Haryana has shown the mood of the country!” Modi said, emphasising that the BJP’s success in Haryana reflects widespread public support despite opposition efforts. He specifically accused the Congress party and “urban Naxals” of trying to mislead the public, but said that all their “conspiracies were destroyed.” Modi highlighted the BJP’s strong backing from Dalits, OBCs, farmers, and youth in Haryana, attributing it to the party’s focus on welfare and development initiatives.
According to Modi, the Congress attempted to divide the Dalit community by spreading misinformation about reservations, but the Dalits saw through this, giving “record support to the BJP.” Similarly, farmers and youth in Haryana trusted the BJP due to its efforts to improve agricultural welfare, provide MSP, and create a brighter future for young people. Modi accused Congress of continuously trying to divide society along caste and communal lines to secure votes, especially by attempting to create divisions within the Hindu community while treating Muslims as a monolithic vote bank.
“Congress’s formula is clear: scare Muslims, convert their fear into a vote bank, and strengthen their political grip,” Modi said. He also criticized Congress for fostering caste-based division among Hindus, claiming that the party uses these tactics to win elections and maintain control. Modi went so far as to suggest that Congress’s divisive politics are undermining India’s “Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhay” (welfare of all) ethos.
Modi who looked quite angry with Congress politics added that “Congress fights elections on the basis of communalism and casteism. Breaking the Hindu society and making it its winning formula is the basis of Congress’s politics.”
Meanwhile, Pawan Khera, head of media and publicity of the Congress in a message on X (former tweet) said, “Why should the @PMOIndia use a government platform and a government program to make a political speech and attack the opposition?” ‘Taxpayers’ money cannot and should not be used to indulge in a political speech? For that, he can use the BJP’s platform,’ Khera added.
While further explaining, Modi said, “Congress is suppressing the spirit of ‘sarvajan hitay sarvajan sukhaay’ of India, suppressing the Sanatan tradition. The Congress which ruled the country for so many years is so restless to return to power that it is doing the politics of hatred every day.”
While referring to the old cadre of the Congress party leaders Modi said, “ The leaders of the old generation of Congress are also helpless, helpless about the condition of their party. This is what is going to happen to Congress, Congress is going to become the biggest factory of spreading hatred. “
“I firmly believe that the people of Maharashtra will foil every conspiracy that is being hatched today to divide the society. The people of Maharashtra have to vote unitedly for the BJP-Mahayuti, keeping the development of the country paramount.”
Modi referenced Mahatma Gandhi’s view on Congress, stating, “ Gandhiji had understood this after independence itself. That is why Gandhiji had said that Congress should be destroyed. Congress itself did not end but today it is bent on destroying the country. That is why we have to be careful, we have to be alert.”
Switching focus to development in Maharashtra, Modi laid the foundation for 10 new medical colleges and announced that the state would now have nearly 6,000 medical seats. He emphasized the government’s efforts to transform healthcare, lift millions out of poverty, and ensure that all citizens have access to affordable medical services through initiatives like Ayushman Bharat.
Modi also pointed to ongoing infrastructure development in Maharashtra, mentioning the modernisation of Nagpur and Shirdi airports and the expansion of metro services. He highlighted the BJP’s commitment to modernising education, including enabling medical studies in Marathi, and emphasized that the government’s goal is to create more opportunities for youth, especially from poor and middle-class backgrounds.
As Maharashtra State soon will be going for the state assembly elections Modi in his closing remarks reiterated his belief that the people of Maharashtra would reject any efforts to divide society and would vote for the BJP-Mahayuti alliance to continue the state’s progress.
