New Delhi, Nov 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated Skyroot Aerospace’s Infinity Campus in Hyderabad, Telangana, through video conferencing, calling it a turning point for India’s private space sector.

He said the country is witnessing unprecedented opportunities in space technology, with private players accelerating innovation and entrepreneurship. Skyroot’s new facility, he added, reflects India’s “new thinking, youth power and innovation,” and will help position the nation as a future leader in the global satellite launch market. The Prime Minister congratulated Skyroot founders Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka, describing them as role models for aspiring space entrepreneurs.

The Prime Minister recalled India’s early space journey, which began with limited resources but progressed to building some of the world’s most reliable launch vehicles. He noted that ISRO’s credibility and capabilities laid a strong foundation, and recent reforms have opened the sector to private participation through policies such as IN-SPACe and the new Space Policy. Highlighting the rapid growth of space startups, he said more than 300 enterprises are now driving a “private space revolution” in areas such as propulsion, materials, satellite platforms and rocket design. He added that global investors increasingly view India as an attractive destination for satellite manufacturing and launch services.

The Prime Minister said that India is now moving beyond apps and services into deep-tech, manufacturing and hardware innovation, citing the semiconductor sector as an example. He affirmed that reforms are also expanding into the nuclear sector to enable private innovation in advanced and modular reactors. Underscoring the government’s push for research, PM Modi pointed to initiatives such as the National Research Foundation, “One Nation, One Subscription” for journal access, a ₹1 lakh crore R&D fund and expansion of Atal Tinkering Labs across schools. He said these efforts are laying the groundwork for breakthroughs and expressed confidence that India will create five new space-sector unicorns within the next five years. Skyroot’s Infinity Campus spans around 200,000 sq ft, equipped to design, develop and test multiple launch vehicles, with the capacity to build one orbital rocket every month. Founded by former ISRO scientists and IIT alumni, Skyroot became India’s first private company to launch a rocket, Vikram-S, in November 2022. The launch of the new campus, the Prime Minister said, symbolises India’s rise as a confident global space power. Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and other dignitaries attended the event.
