New Delhi, Nov 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated Safran Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI), a major Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility, at Hyderabad’s GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park via video conferencing.

Calling it a “new flight” for India’s aviation sector, he said the investment would help make India a global MRO hub while creating high-tech jobs for youth.

The Prime Minister highlighted the rapid growth of the aviation market, noting that India now ranks as the third-largest domestic aviation market and airlines have ordered over 1,500 new aircraft. With 85% of MRO work previously outsourced abroad, he said the new facility marks the first deep-level servicing by a global OEM in India, reducing costs and turnaround time. Modi stressed that investors in India are seen as “co-creators” and credited recent reforms, including FDI liberalisation, reduced compliances, GST and labour reforms, for making India a trusted global manufacturing destination. “We are dreaming big, doing bigger and delivering best,” he said. Spread across 45,000 sqm with an initial investment of ₹1,300 crore, the SAESI facility will service LEAP engines used in Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, and is expected to employ over 1,000 engineers and technicians by 2035. It is seen as a major step towards Aatmanirbharta in aviation and the development of a robust MRO ecosystem in India.
