PM Modi holds talks with Oman’s Sultan Haitham to strengthen ties

New Delhi, Dec 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held substantive discussions with Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman on Saturday, emphasising the expansion of bilateral cooperation across various sectors, with a particular focus on trade and investment.

The Sultan's arrival in Delhi on Friday marked his inaugural visit to India as the paramount leader of the Gulf nation. "Giving a boost to India-Oman Strategic Partnership! PM @narendramodi warmly received His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman at Hyderabad House, setting the stage for bilateral discussions," announced External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi in a pre-talks statement.

The agenda of the talks, according to Bagchi, encompassed a comprehensive review of bilateral ties and the formulation of future collaboration strategies between the two countries. The morning began with Sultan bin Tarik receiving a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

"This first state visit of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to India marks a significant milestone in the diplomatic relations between India and the Sultanate of Oman," highlighted the Ministry of External Affairs when initially announcing the trip.

India and Oman, as strategic partners, have witnessed a noteworthy upswing in their bilateral trade and investment relationship in recent years. The historical ties between the two nations, rooted in mutual trust, respect, and centuries-old people-to-people connections, form the bedrock of their enduring friendship and cooperation.

Accompanying the Sultan is a distinguished high-level delegation, comprising senior ministers and officials, underscoring the importance both nations place on fostering robust diplomatic relations. As the talks progress, the engagement between India and Oman continues to reflect the shared commitment to strengthening ties and exploring avenues for mutual growth and collaboration.
