“Wishing everyone a blessed and joyous Easter. This Easter is special because, world over, the Jubilee Year is being observed with immense fervor. May this sacred occasion inspire hope, renewal and compassion in every person. May there be joy and harmony all around.”

Easter is being observed with devotion and festive spirit across India, particularly in states with significant Christian communities such as Kerala, Goa, Tamil Nadu, and the northeastern region. Churches across the country held midnight vigils and sunrise services, marked by prayers, hymns, and community gatherings. In many places, Easter also served as an occasion for acts of charity and outreach to the underprivileged, reflecting the message of hope and renewal central to the celebration.

Globally, Easter was marked with solemnity and reverence, including at the Vatican, where over five thousand faithfuls gathered in and around Saint Peter’s Basilica for the Easter Vigil. Although Pope Francis did not preside over the Mass due to ongoing recovery from respiratory illness, he made a brief visit to the basilica before the prayer service to greet the faithful.

The homily during the vigil was delivered by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals, who presided on the Pope’s behalf. In the message read on his behalf, Pope Francis reflected on how “the light of the Resurrection illumines our path one step at a time,” offering hope in the midst of life’s uncertainties and hardships.
