New Delhi, Oct 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to the people of India as he entered the 25th year of serving as the head of a government, a journey that began when he took oath as Gujarat’s Chief Minister on October 6, 2001.

Reflecting on the milestone in a series of posts on X, the Prime Minister said, “On this day in 2001, I took oath as Gujarat’s Chief Minister for the first time. Thanks to the continuous blessings of my fellow Indians, I am entering my 25th year of serving as the head of a Government. My gratitude to the people of India.”

He recalled assuming office in Gujarat during “very testing circumstances”, when the state was recovering from a devastating earthquake and years of drought and political instability. “Those challenges strengthened the resolve to serve people and rebuild Gujarat with renewed vigour and hope,” he said. Remembering his late mother’s advice, PM Modi shared, “She told me — always work for the poor and never take a bribe. I assured people that whatever I do will be with the best intent and inspired by the vision to serve the very last person in the queue.”

The Prime Minister said that Gujarat, once believed to be in decline, rose to become “a powerhouse of good governance.” He added, “A drought-prone state became a top performer in agriculture. The culture of trading expanded into robust industrial capacities, and curfews became a thing of the past.”

Looking back at his national journey, PM Modi said that in 2013 he was chosen as the BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate when the country was facing “a crisis of trust and governance.” He said the people of India restored faith in leadership by giving his party an absolute majority in 2014, the first in three decades.

Highlighting India’s progress over the past 11 years, he stated, “Over 25 crore people have been removed from poverty. India is seen as a bright spot among global economies. Our Nari Shakti, Yuva Shakti and hardworking Annadatas have been empowered through path-breaking efforts and reforms.” Reaffirming his commitment to national service, the Prime Minister concluded, “To serve our beloved nation is the highest honour. Guided by the values of our Constitution, I will work even harder to realise our collective dream of a Viksit Bharat.”
