PM Modi congratulates Malaysian PM on ASEAN Chairmanship

New Delhi, Oct 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a warm and cordial conversation with his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, congratulating him on Malaysia’s assumption of the ASEAN Chairmanship.

During the discussion, PM Modi extended his best wishes for the successful conduct of the upcoming ASEAN-related Summits under Malaysia’s leadership and reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The Prime Minister also expressed his interest in participating virtually in the forthcoming ASEAN-India Summit, as earlier it was believed that Modi may travel to Kuala Lumpur and chances were that he may have a bilateral meeting with the US President, who is likely to attend the summit on October 26.  In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Had a warm conversation with my dear friend, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia. Congratulated him on Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship and conveyed best wishes for the success of the upcoming Summits. Look forward to joining the ASEAN-India Summit virtually, and to further deepening the ASEAN-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.”
