New Delhi, Jul 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed profound grief over the passing of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, remembering him as a leader of great wisdom and a steadfast friend of India.

In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister wrote: “Deeply saddened by the passing of former President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari.

I fondly recall our meetings and conversations on various occasions. His wisdom, warmth and unwavering commitment to India–Nigeria friendship stood out. I join the 1.4 billion people of India in extending our heartfelt condolences to his family, the people and the government of Nigeria.”

Reflecting on his past interactions with Buhari, Mr. Modi said the former Nigerian leader’s vision and statesmanship left a lasting impression, particularly in furthering the partnership between India and Nigeria.
