PM Modi calls for 9 national ‘resolutions’
Udupi, Karnataka, Nov 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday participated in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme at Sri Krishna Matha, where over one lakh devotees recited verses from the Bhagavad Gita in unison.
Calling it a moment of “supreme fortune”, the Prime Minister said the occasion reflected India’s living spiritual heritage. “The satisfaction of the divine darshan of Lord Shri Krishna, the spiritual experience of the mantras of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, and the presence of so many revered saints and gurus is for me a supreme fortune. It is akin to attaining countless blessings,” he said.
Referring to his visit to Kurukshetra three days earlier, he added, “Today, coming to this land blessed by Lord Shri Krishna and graced by the glory of Jagadguru Shri Madhvacharya Ji is for me an occasion of supreme contentment.” He said the collective chanting of the Gita had shown the world “the living divinity of India’s millennia-old spiritual heritage.”
The Prime Minister spoke warmly of Karnataka, saying, “Coming to the land of Karnataka and being among the affectionate people here always gives me a unique experience.” Highlighting his personal bond with Udupi, he said, “Though I was born in Gujarat, there has always been a deep and special connection between Gujarat and Udupi.” He recalled that the idol of Lord Krishna at Udupi is believed to have once been worshipped in Dwarka. “One can imagine the profound feeling I experienced upon having darshan of this idol… this darshan gave me immense spiritual joy,” he said.
The Prime Minister also credited Udupi for pioneering concepts of modern governance. “The cleanliness campaign which today is seen at the national level was adopted by Udupi five decades ago,” he said, adding that water supply and drainage reforms had also begun there in the 1970s. Quoting Ramcharitmanas, he said, “In Kalyug, only through the chanting of the Lord’s name one attains liberation from the ocean of worldly existence.” He added that when one lakh voices recited the Gita together, “a special energy emerges that gives the mind and intellect a new vibration and a new strength.” He praised Param Pujya Shri Shri Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji for inspiring people worldwide to write the Gita by hand through the Koti Gita Lekhana Yajna. The Prime Minister said, “This has become a global mass movement of the Sanatan tradition.”
FROM AYODHYA TO UDUPI
The Prime Minister linked the celebration to his recent visit to Ayodhya. “On 25th November, the auspicious day of Vivaha Panchami, the Dharma Dhwaja was established at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple,” he said. He noted that a grand gate at the Ram Mandir has been named after Jagadguru Madhvacharya Ji, “a matter of great pride for Udupi, Karnataka and the entire nation.”
NINE RESOLUTIONS FOR CITIZENS
Invoking the teachings of the Gita, PM Modi urged the nation to adopt nine resolutions: conservation of water, tree plantation, helping the poor, Swadeshi and ‘Vocal for Local’, natural farming, healthy lifestyle, yoga, preservation of manuscripts, and visiting 25 heritage sites across India. “These appeals are very essential for our present and future,” he said.
He said the teachings of Lord Krishna also guide governance. “Behind the policies of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaya lies the inspiration of Lord Shri Krishna’s shlokas,” he noted. Schemes like Ayushman Bharat, PM Awas and the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, he said, draw strength from this message. On national security, the Prime Minister said, “The Bhagavad Gita teaches us that to establish peace and truth, the end of oppressors is also necessary.
