PM Modi brought equality in J&K post Aug 5: LoP
Jammu, Mar 20: The Leader of Opposition in the J&K Legislative Assembly Sunil Sharma Thursday asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi restored equality in J&K with the “historic step taken on August 5, 2019.”
“Treasury benches are repeatedly mentioning August 5. I want to ask you – what has been snatched? The countries fight for equality. Has the Prime Minister not restored justice to J&K, brought equality here?” he asked, amid stiff opposition from the treasury benches.
He was participating in the debate on demands for grants for the departments under the charge of the Chief Minister.
Sunil Sharma also took a dig at the treasury benches for their references to the “dual power centre” in J&K.
“Dual power centre was before August 5, 2019. The mention of “PoJK’s House” is also a positive step,” the LoP said while demanding the opening of the centre of Sharda Peeth University.
“Today you are talking about the loss of jobs and land. What was happening during the past 70 years? The land demographic invasion was going on. District Court Justice in his report had mentioned about encroachments of the Tawi river bed. 689 encroachers of a specific community were identified in the report,” Sharma said.
He said that the land and jobs were not in danger. “It is taking us to one identity i.e., identity being an Indian. I would like to add to Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s slogan – Ek Nishan, Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan Aur Ek Pehchaan,” the LoP said.
Earlier he also raked up the issue of AAP MLA, hurting religious sentiments. Speaker A R Rather assured him to check records and expunge all controversial remarks.
