PM Modi backs homegrown innovation push
New Delhi, Feb 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held a roundtable interaction with leading CEOs and founders from Indiaís AI and deeptech ecosystem at Seva Teerth, focusing on leveraging AI to address population-scale challenges across sectors.
The participating startups are working on solutions spanning healthcare, agriculture, cybersecurity, space technology, and social empowerment.
In healthcare, firms are deploying AI for advanced diagnostics, gene therapy, and efficient patient record management to expand quality care to underserved areas.
In agriculture, companies are using geospatial and underwater intelligence to enhance productivity and mitigate climate risks.
Other ventures are developing tools for ethical AI, vernacular access to justice and education, and modernising legacy enterprise systems to improve productivity.
Startup leaders praised Indiaís sustained efforts to strengthen its AI ecosystem, noting the rapid expansion of the sector and its vast untapped potential.
They said global momentum in AI innovation and deployment was increasingly shifting towards India, which now offers a supportive and dynamic environment for advancement. The India AI Impact Summit was also described as a reflection of the countryís growing role in shaping global AI discourse.
PM Modi commended innovators for taking bold risks and building impactful solutions. He highlighted the potential of AI in agriculture and environmental protection, including monitoring crop productivity and fertiliser usage to safeguard soil health. Stressing the importance of promoting Indian languages and culture, the PM called for expanding AI tools to support higher education in mother tongues.
He highlighted the importance of strong data governance and cautioned against misinformation, urging the development of AI solutions tailored to Indiaís specific needs. Referring to the success of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) as a model of simple and scalable digital innovation, he expressed confidence in Indian companies and encouraged greater trust in domestic products.
PM Modi also spoke about expanding private participation in the space sector and noted growing investor interest in Indian startups. The meeting was attended by CEOs and founders of Abridge, Adalat AI, BrainSightAI, Credo AI, Eka Care, Glean, Innogle, Invideo, Miko, Origin, Prophaze, Rasen, Rubrik, SatSure, Supernova, and Sypha AI.
Principal Secretary P K Mishra, Principal Secretary-2 Shaktikanta Das, and Minister of State Jitin Prasada were also present.
