PM Modi, Amit Shah to lead BJP campaign in J&K

Jammu, Aug 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, on the anticipated lines, will lead the BJP campaign in J&K assembly elections.

Besides, the names of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, along with party president and Union Minister J P Nadda, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, topped the list of 40 star-campaigners, issued by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday, for the phase one of assembly elections.

The list was submitted to Election Commission of India (ECI) on August 25 by the party national general secretary and incharge Headquarter Arun Singh, in consonance with explanation (2) to Section 77 of the Representation of People Act, 1951.

“This list may be treated as valid for the remaining Legislative Assembly constituencies, figuring in Schedule 2 and 3 for the State of Jammu and Kashmir, unless we forward an amended list for the remaining schedules within the prescribed time limit,” Singh submitted to ECI.

Other BJP leaders including Chief Ministers and ex CMs of party-ruled states, whose names were there in the list, were Manohal Lal Khattar, G Kishan Reddy, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Jai Ram Thakur, Anurag Thakur, Dr Jitendra Singh, Bhajan Lal Sharma, Ram Madhav, Tarun Chugh, Ashish Sood, Smriti Irani and Gen (retired) V K Singh.

Prominent J&K leaders - Jugal Kishore Sharma, Ghulam Ali Khatana, Narinder Singh, Ravinder Raina, Ashok Koul, Nirmal Singh, Devender Singh Rana, Sukhnandan Choudhary, Sham Lal Sharma, Arun Prabhat Singh, Neelam Langeh, Ranjodh Singh Nalwa, Sarbjit Singh Johal, Dananther SinghKotwal, Sangita Bhagat, Haji Javeed Zargar, Sofi Yousuf, Mohammad Anwar Khan and Sanjita Dogra too figured in the list of star campaigners besides Trilok Jamwal from Himachal Pradesh.
