New Delhi, Aug 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday received Chinese Foreign Minister and Politburo member Wang Yi in New Delhi, during which he was handed a personal message and invitation from President Xi Jinping to attend the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin.

Wang briefed Modi on his discussions with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, including the 24th round of talks between the Special Representatives of both countries on the boundary issue.

During the meeting, Modi underlined the importance of maintaining peace and tranquillity along the border and reiterated India’s commitment to seeking a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable resolution of the boundary question.

The Prime Minister welcomed what he described as steady and positive progress in bilateral ties since his meeting with Xi in Kazan last year, noting areas of cooperation guided by “mutual respect, mutual interest and mutual sensitivity.”

He also referred to the resumption of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra as a sign of improving ties.

Accepting Xi’s invitation, PM Modi conveyed his support for China’s presidency of the SCO and said he looked forward to meeting the Chinese leader in Tianjin.

He stressed that stable, predictable and constructive relations between India and China would be crucial for regional and global peace and prosperity.
