New Delhi, Aug 31: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Myanmar’s Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin.

The two leaders reviewed bilateral relations and discussed cooperation in areas including development partnership, defence and security, border management, and trade.

Prime Minister Modi emphasised the importance of expediting ongoing connectivity projects, saying they would strengthen people-to-people ties and advance regional integration under India’s Act East policy. He highlighted Myanmar’s significance in India’s strategic outreach, underlining its role within the Neighbourhood First, Act East, and Indo-Pacific frameworks. Modi also conveyed that India remains committed to supporting Myanmar’s development priorities. Touching on Myanmar’s domestic political situation, the Prime Minister expressed hope that forthcoming elections would be conducted in a fair and inclusive manner, involving all stakeholders. He reiterated India’s position in favour of a Myanmar-led and Myanmar-owned peace process, rooted in dialogue and consultation.
