PM inaugurates Rs 9000 Cr projects for Manipal
New Delhi, Sep 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over Rs 9000 crore in Aizawl, Mizoram, covering railways, roadways, energy, and sports.
The Prime Minister joined the event via videoconference, as bad weather prevented him from travelling beyond Lengpui Airport. Calling it a “historic day” for Mizoram, Modi said, “From today, Aizawl will be on India’s railway map.
Despite challenges of terrain, the Bairabi–Sairang rail line has now become a reality, opening new opportunities for trade, tourism, and livelihoods.” The Prime Minister flagged off three new trains, including a Rajdhani Express connecting Sairang in Mizoram with Delhi. He said this new connectivity was “not just a railway line, but a lifeline of transformation.”
Highlighting Mizoram’s contribution to the freedom movement and nation-building, Mr. Modi praised the spirit of the Mizo people. He added that the government’s focus was to empower the North East, once neglected, and transform it into India’s “growth engine.” Among other projects, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for key road corridors, a new LPG bottling plant, and modern sports and educational facilities. He also announced that helicopter services would soon be launched in Mizoram under the UDAN scheme, improving access to remote areas. Governor V.K. Singh, Chief Minister Lalduhoma, and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw were present at the ceremony.
