PM holds joint call with EU leaders
New Delhi, Sep 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a joint telephone call with European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, reviewing the state of India-EU relations and future cooperation.
The leaders underlined the importance of the India-EU Strategic Partnership in tackling global challenges, fostering stability, and promoting a rules-based international order.
They welcomed progress across key areas, including trade, technology, investment, innovation, sustainability, defence, security, and supply chain resilience.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to an early conclusion of negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the implementation of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC).
Building on the visit of the EU College of Commissioners to India in February, the leaders also discussed holding the next India-EU Summit in India at an early date, with Prime Minister Modi extending an invitation to his counterparts.
The conversation also touched upon regional and global issues, including the conflict in Ukraine.
PM Modi reiterated India’s support for a peaceful resolution and the restoration of stability.
All three leaders agreed to remain in close contact to advance the partnership.
