New Delhi, Oct 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed the launch of Google’s new AI Hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, calling it a milestone in India’s digital transformation.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said the multi-faceted investment, which includes a gigawatt-scale data centre infrastructure, aligns with the government’s vision of building a Viksit Bharat (Developed India). PM Modi said the initiative would play a key role in democratising technology and advancing the goal of “AI for All.” He added that it would empower citizens with cutting-edge tools, strengthen India’s digital economy, and reinforce the country’s position as a global technology leader.

In addition, Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Dr Pemmasani Chandrasekhar said the upcoming 1-GW hyperscale Google Data Centre in Visakhapatnam is expected to generate around ?10,000 crore in revenue for Andhra Pradesh. Calling the project a defining milestone in Swarandhra Pradesh’s journey of progress and self-reliance, Dr Chandrasekhar noted that Google’s planned $15 billion (USD) investment over five years (2026–2030) would create between 5,000 and 6,000 direct jobs and up to 30,000 total jobs. The project will bring world-class manpower, infrastructure, power, and cooling facilities to the city, providing a major boost to the regional economy. Speaking to the media after Google’s announcement during the Bharat AI Shakti event in New Delhi, Dr Chandrasekhar said the initiative represents India’s first gigawatt-scale data centre and Google’s first AI hub in the country.

He also lauded Prime Minister Modi’s support for Andhra Pradesh’s development and praised the efforts of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh in facilitating Google’s entry into the state. Dr Chandrasekhar said the project marks a major step in positioning Andhra Pradesh as a digital hub and accelerating AI-driven transformation across India. The Bharat AI Shakti event was attended by Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and Nirmala Sitharaman, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh, and Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian.
