PM condoles Karnataka accident victims
New Delhi, Sep 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives in a road accident in Karnataka’s Hassan district and announced financial assistance to the victims’ families.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister described the incident as “heart-rending” and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families. He also wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
PM Modi said an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would be given to the next of kin of each deceased, while the injured would receive Rs 50,000. At least nine people were killed when a tanker lorry rammed into a Ganpati immersion procession in Mosale Hosalli village of the district. Six villagers and three engineering students were among the dead, police said. Several others were injured. The truck driver, identified as Bhuvenesh was also injured in the crash and has been admitted to hospital. “He is currently in the ICU, and we have drawn blood for analysis,” a senior police officer said. Police have arrested the driver and further investigation is underway.
