PHC Kullan building construction recieves administrative approval after over a decade

Kangan, Dec 20: After facing a delay of over a decade in its completion, the government has granted the administrative approval for construction of PHC at Kullan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

The Primary Health Centre (PHC) Kullan in Kangan sub division of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district has been awaiting completion of its building for the last 13 years, with the result of which local residents are facing difficulties for want of adequate health facilities in the village.

The work on the new building of PHC Kullan was started in 2011, the hospital building had been abandoned by the concerned agency and is still incomplete.

At present, the hospital is operating from an old building with inadequate accommodation and infrastructure.

Now, with the grant of approval the work on the hospital building is likely to resume and the hospital building will be completed.

Locals, civil society group members, social activists had raised the issue with officials. It was the local MLA Kangan Mian Mehar Ali who flagged this issue with the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recently in a meeting during the CM’s visit to Ganderbal.

Showing keen interest to resolve the issue, MLA Kangan had also raised the issue with the senior officials of the health and medical education department.

Locals have expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, MLA Kangan, Secretary H&M Syed Abid Rasheed and DC Ganderbal in this regard.

“We are grateful to the government particularly the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, MLA Kangan Mian Mehar Ali, Secretary Health Syed Abid Rasheed , DC Ganderbal Shyambir and Director Heath Bakshi Jahangeer for their efforts in fulfilling the long standing demand of construction of the hospital building in Kullan. We are hopeful the construction will resume and the PHC building will be completed “ said Irfan Ahmed, a local resident.

MLA Kangan Mian Mehar Ali said that it is unfortunate that the work was delayed on the hospital building. He said that it remained one of his top priorities and the issue had been taken up with the concerned departments and work will be prioritised so that the hospital building which has been left midway is completed and the people of the area don't face any inconvenience in getting better medical facilities.

MLA expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Secretary Health Syed Abid Rasheed, Director Health Services Kashmir for their support.
