Kupwara, Feb 4: The residents of Machil Wednesday staged a protest against authorities over the transfer of a lone MBBS doctor from Primary Health Centre (PHC) Dudi, stating that the move has seriously affected healthcare services in the area.

The protesters said that the transferred doctor was the only MBBS practitioner serving patients at the hospital and his transfer has left PHC Dudi dependent solely on BUMS doctors. "His transfer has created a critical gap in medical care, particularly for patients requiring qualified and timely treatment," they said. Protesters also said that several posts of paramedics at PHC Dudi have been lying vacant for a long time thus weakening healthcare delivery and adding to the hardships of patients.

"PHC Dudi is the main health centre for the area. The transfer of the only MBBS doctor has pushed people into distress. With paramedical posts already vacant, patients are suffering on a daily basis. The authorities must immediately revoke the transfer or post an MBBS doctor here without delay," former Sarpanch Machil Habibullah told Greater Kashmir.

The residents have sought immediate intervention of concerned MLA Qaiser Jamsheed Lone and Health Minister Sakeena Itoo to step in and address the issue at the earliest so that the people of the area can get a sigh of relief
