Revellers congregated at his residence in Lach Mawer area of Kupwara, as the euphoria of victory reverberated throughout the region.
Adorned in traditional Kashmiri attire, women commemorated the occasion with spirited songs of triumph, while the night sky was illuminated with fireworks, symbolising the collective elation of the masses.
With prior electoral successes in the 2008 and 2014 assembly elections, Rashid has consistently advocated for the marginalised, garnering steadfast support from his constituents.
Every remarkable leader is bolstered by a committed team, and Rashid is no exception.
Supported by his sons, Abrar Rashid and Asrar Rashid, alongside former MLA Sangrama Shoib Lone, he spearheaded a spirited campaign that resonated deeply with the voters.
Their tireless endeavours, coupled with overwhelming voter support, propelled Rashid to a resounding victory, securing an impressive 4,72,481 votes and outpacing his opponents by significant margins.
As the celebrations persist, Rashid's father, Khazir Muhammad Shiekh appealed to the Centre and the Supreme Court for his son's release, emphasising his innocence and steadfast commitment to the welfare of the people.
Expressing gratitude to all supporters, he underscored Rashid's unwavering advocacy for the disadvantaged, a legacy that resonated with voters and propelled him to triumph.
His younger brother Shiekh Khursheed while talking to Greater Kashmir thanked the Election Commission of India (ECI) for holding free and fair elections.
A local termed his win as a win for the deprived and the destitute.
"Engineer Rashid has always stood for poor people during his tenure as MLA. So, people across north Kashmir came out to vote for him,” he said.
"We wanted to teach a lesson to his opponents. I have never met Rashid but all through these years, I have seen him standing out for the common people. I remember he once visited our locality and addressed our issue,” said a youth from Nowpora, Sopore who had turned up to celebrate Rashid's victory at his residence.
