People stage protest against lack of facilities at SDH Kralpora

Kupwara, July 8: Scores of people Monday assembled at main market Kralpora to protest against lack of facilities at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Kralpora.

The protesters blocked Kupwara-Karnah road for some time and raised slogans against hospital administration for failing to ensure facilities to general public.

They said only a few doctors were posted at SDH Kralpora which according to them do not suffice the needs of over one lakh people. “We do not have specialist doctors including gynaecologist, ENT, orthopedician, ophthalmologist, paediatrician here due to which we are supposed to visit Kupwara or Handwara for treatment. I fail to understand why specialist doctors are not being posted here,” Parvez Ahmad Mir of Dardpora Kralpora who was part of the protest told Greater Kashmir.

“After our hospital was upgraded to SDH, we had high hopes of getting improved health care facilities but nothing like that happened ever. This hospital caters over one lakh but it has never been a healer to them,” he added.

The protesters also complained that although the operation theatre at SDH Kralpora was inaugurated one month ago following which a surgery was carried out on the same day but till then not a single surgery was done here due to reasons best known to the concerned authorities.

The protesters later dispersed peacefully saying that they will again hit the streets if their genuine demands were not fulfilled within two days.
