Pedestrian killed in Ramban accident

Ramban, Jan 31: A pedestrian was killed in a road accident near Petrol Pump, Mehar of Ramban area on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway on Wednesday afternoon.

He was hit by a rashly driven truck. Police sources said a man died on the spot after he was hit by a rashly driven truck bearing registration number HR-55AQ-1187 near Petrol Pump, Mehar.

He was crossing the National Highway -44, near a Petrol Pump, in the Mehar area of Ramban when this accident occurred.

On getting information Police and volunteers reached the spot and shifted the body to the mortuary of District Hospital Ramban

Police identified the deceased as Mohammed Yousuf 60, resident of Charna, Ganote, tehsil and district Ramban.

He was crushed to death on the spot by a Jammu-bound truck while he was crossing the highway.

After conducting a post-mortem the dead body was handed over to the family members of the deceased.

SHO Police Station Ramban Inspector, Vijay Kotwal confirmed the incident and said the truck involved in the accident was seized and the driver was taken into custody.

He said a case was registered in the Police Station, Ramban and an investigation of the case is ongoing.
