Srinagar, Mar 8: Director General of Police (DGP) Rashmi Ranjan Swain Friday said that peace had returned to Jammu and Kashmir and the Police force was committed to maintaining it.

Speaking at the culmination ceremony of the All India Police Water Sports Championship at SKICC, DGP Swain expressed relief that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Srinagar proceeded without any incident.

“We were a bit worried about PM Modi’s visit but everything went off peacefully,” he said. “There is an improved security situation in J&K.”

The DGP emphasised the Police force's determination to prevent any attempts to disrupt peace in J&K.

He also announced plans to organise water sports events across J&K, aiming to promote the sport and utilise the region's abundant water bodies.

DGP Swain said that the J&K Police would collaborate with the Sports Department and experts to identify suitable locations for such events.

Responding to a query about the absence of a women’s team from the J&K Police at the event, he assured that women officers were proficient in policing and record-keeping. He expressed confidence that a women’s team would be formed soon.

Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar highlighted the growth in sports infrastructure in J&K and the administration's commitment to expanding it.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Law and Order, Vijay Kumar thanked the participants of the event and expressed hope of increased participation in future.
