PDP’s Zahoor Mir seeks district status for Pampore

Srinagar, Jan 15: People’s Democratic Party leader Zahoor Ahmad Mir has said that in view of its historical significance, economic importance, and the administrative hardships faced by its residents, Pampore must be turned into a district soon.

“In light of the recent delimitation exercise, it is earnestly proposed that Pampore be elevated to a District Headquarter by integrating geographically and economically connected adjoining areas from Srinagar and Budgam districts. Such a reorganization would ensure better governance, improved service delivery, and administrative efficiency for the people,” said Mir.

At present, Pampore falls under overlapping jurisdictions, particularly due to its inclusion in the Smart City framework. This has resulted in significant inconvenience to residents, who are often required to obtain No Objection Certificates (NOCs) and approvals from multiple departments located across Srinagar and Pulwama districts. This fragmented system has created avoidable delays and bureaucratic complications, he added.

The former minister Mir said it is also pertinent to clarify that the earlier establishment of a sub-district at Awantipora was a compromise decision taken due to its central location between Tral and Pampore.
