PDP will play key role in govt formation: Haq Khan

Kupwara, Aug 25: Senior PDP leader Abdul Haq Khan today said that his party will play a key role in government formation.

The former cabinet minister following his re-entry into PDP addressed his first public gathering in Devar area of Lolab in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Reflecting on the fall of previous administration, Khan reaffirmed his dedication to a renewed political engagement. He cited considerable public pressure and persuasion from President Mehbooba Mufti as pivotal factors in his decision to return, underscoring the critical need for his presence in Kashmir's political landscape.

In response to the BJP President Ravinder Raina's concerns about the PDP potentially reviving militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, Khan pointed to the tenure of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, which he characterized as a period of significant decline in militancy and notable developmental progress.

Regarding Jamaat-e-Islami's (JEI) decision to participate in the forthcoming assembly elections, Khan welcomed their involvement. He emphasized the democratic value of inclusive electoral participation, asserting that the ability of all political entities to compete in elections is a cornerstone of democratic governance.

When asked about the challenges of returning to politics or winning in Lolab, Khan assured that he has remained closely connected with the community. Despite his formal political absence, he has consistently visited Lolab over the past six years and engaged in various social functions, maintaining a strong presence and connection with the local electorate.

"My foremost aim is to ease the suffering and address the challenges faced by the people of Lolab, with a strong emphasis on their development, " PDP leader added.

As for the upcoming assembly elections, Khan expressed confidence that the PDP will be crucial in shaping the new government. He anticipated that many PDP candidates would achieve substantial victories, positioning the party as a key force in the new government.
