PDP voices concern over delay in release of rules of procedure of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly
Srinagar, Feb 24: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has voiced its concern over delay in release of rules of procedure of J&K Assembly.
The party also said that it will introduce three bills including one on regularisation of casual labourers.
In a post on X, the Youth wing of the PDP said, “Would've happily read the rules of procedure & conduct of business in J&K assembly but the speaker is yet to release it, even to the elected MLAs.”
In another tweet the party said that it would introduce three bills in the Assembly. Besides the one on regularisation of casual labourers, the party said that it will also move a bill on alcohol ban and land ownership to landless people.
The party is particularly vocal about the bill on alcohol ban. Party leader Iltija Mufti earlier said that alcohol and drugs are wrecking lives and families in J&K and “we must come together to put an end to it before it’s too late.”
A bill proposed by PDP MLA from Kupwara, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, has sought a complete ban on the advertisement, sale, purchase, consumption, and manufacture of alcoholic beverages in Jammu and Kashmir.
The PDP’s criticism over delay in rules also comes a day Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, expressed displeasure over some MLAs giving publicity to notices submitted by them to the Legislative Assembly.
A communique issued here in this regard by the Legislative Assembly, said the Speaker has observed that, “according to parliamentary practice, usage and established convention and prevalent rules of this House, it is improper to give unwarranted publicity to the notices of questions, bills, resolutions and other similar matters connected with Business of the House”.
