PDP opposes transfer of Amusement park land for IIM campus
Srinagar, Aug 29: PDP leader Zuhaib Yousf Mir has expressed strong opposition to the recent transfer of land designated for an Amusement park in Athwajan area on city outskirts to the proposed Indian Institute of Management (IIM) campus.
In a statement, Mir called for immediate transparency in the decision-making process and demanded a comprehensive one-year performance report from the National Conference (NC).
In his statement, Mir highlighted concerns over the lack of public consultation in the land transfer, emphasising that the area was intended for recreational and community use. "This decision undermines the needs of local residents and prioritises institutional development over public welfare," Mir stated. He further criticised NC MLAs for focusing on “superficial activities, such as making social media reels and cutting ribbons, while neglecting substantive ground-level work.” "They fail to address critical issues like Public Safety Acts (PSAs) or the fundamental rights of the people," he added.
Mir urged the authorities to reconsider the allocation and ensure that community infrastructure, including the children's park and community center in Athwajan, Pandrethan, and Panthachowk, is preserved. He also appealed to the Chief Minister and relevant departments to release details on the rationale behind the transfer and hold accountable those involved in the process.
