PDP MLA Parra slams PDD as Pulwama resident receives ‘inflated’ bill
Pulwama, Feb 16: A resident of Naira Check village in south Kashmir's Pulwama district has received an inflated electricity bill, prompting PDP legislator Waheed ur Rehman Parra to criticise the Power Development Department (PDD).
Parra demanded immediate government intervention in the matter.
Abdul Ahad Wani, a low-income consumer, was sent a bill of Rs 10,669 for January, an amount disproportionate to his usage.
Taking up the issue, Parra shared a copy of the bill on X and wrote, “Power Department in J&K has turned into an extortion machine, forcing even the poorest to pay exorbitant bills while inflation crushes them. EWS and below poverty line families are being bled dry while the government watches in silence".
Parra alleged that the PDD has shifted its focus from a public service department to a commercial entity and is serving capitalist interests.
Terming the bill as "unjust", Parra said that the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, must reconsider such bills ahead of budget allocation and intervene in the issue.
