PDP joined INDIA bloc only to get seats: Omar Abdullah
Ananatng, Apr 21: Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and National Conference (NC) vice president on Sunday criticised the PDP for sewing an alliance with INDIA bloc “only to secure seats.”
Omar also asked Peoples Conference (PC) President Sajad Gani Lone as to why is he seeking support of Apni Party President Syed Altaf Bukhari “to get me defeated in Baramulla parliamentary constituency if I am a tourist there.”
Addressing an election rally at Bijbehara and Dialgam areas of Anantnag district, Omar said , “The INDIA alliance stands in opposition to BJP and the alliance is here on the stage. Those who are not on the stage are trying to benefit BJP.”He said that the objective of joining the alliance was to defeat communal forces and those who harmed “our identity and demolished Jammu and Kashmir.” “To defeat such forces, we said that we would leave Jammu, Udhampur and Kargil seats. What selfishness do you see in it,” he said. Omar said that if they were selfish, they would not have extended their support to PDP on various occasions. “Can Mehbooba Ji deny the fact that I wrote to the governor expressing our readiness to support PDP for the formation of government ,”the NC Vice President asked . He said that they offered unconditional support to PDP only to keep BJP out. “But at that time they ( PDP) did not hold our hand of friendship. And now they are seeking a seat from us,”he said.
Cirticising PDP president Mehbooba Mufti for going mute in the parliament, Omar said when the speaker asked her to speak, she stood up and started laughing and then said what should she say. “It is very easy to speak before the media or in rallies,” Omar said.
He urged the people to send NC candidate Mian Altaf Ahamed to the parliament who has both political and spiritual strength.
Hitting out at Bhartiya Janta Party, Omar alleged that the party is contesting the Lok Sabha polls through its proxies. “It is the strategy of BJP to field its B and C team in elections,” Omar told reporters on the side-lines of the poll rally. He said that the BJP leaders were frequently meeting the leaders of these B and C teams. “The recent meeting of Chugh sahab with Altaf Bukhari and Sajad Lone suggest that they are contesting from BJP,” he said.
Criticizing the Sajad Lone for his tourist remark, Omar said that now they had to beg before BJP for defeating this tourist. “If I am not in position to win the election, what prompted Sajad sahab to beg before others,” asked Omar.
