PDP fields Bashir A Mir from Ganderbal
Ganderbal, Aug 28: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fielded its youth leader and state secretary Bashir Ahmad Mir from Ganderbal assembly constituency for the forthcoming elections.
PDP released another list of candidates for the upcoming assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir, which included the name of its state secretary Bashir Ahmed Mir as its candidate from Ganderbal constituency in central Kashmir.
Bashir Ahmad Mir who hails from Kangan area of Ganderbal district will be pitted against former Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah.
The party announced its decision to field Bashir Ahmad Mir a day after the NC announced Omar Abdullah as its candidate for the Assembly seat. Omar will be contesting from Ganderbal assembly seat for a third time. Notably, Bashir Mir a prominent youth leader contested from in the 2008 and 2014 elections unsuccessfully from Kangan assembly constituency, however he polled impressive 12,000 and 25,000 votes, respectively against National Conference stalwart Mian Altaf Ahmed.
After delimitation process Kangan assembly constituency has been reserved as a ST seat. Mir this time he will be pitted against National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah who was declared as party’s candidate on Tuesday.
Bashir Ahmad Mir, a prominent figure in the PDP, is set to face Omar Abdullah, the National Conference leader, in what promises to be one of the most closely watched electoral battles in the region.
Talking to media persons after his candidacy announcement, Mir said that he has the leadership qualities in his blood and has worked from grass root level for the party. He said that he will take all party cadre along and will work for the development of the Ganderbal. Mir said that in the past elections people have always supported him and voted him , adding that this time people of Ganderbal particularly youth should vote wisely and for the betterment of Ganderbal.
