Jammu, Jan 3: Police Friday arrested the accused, who had opened fire at a senior BJP leader’s son, injuring him over a parking issue near PDD office at New Plot, Jammu.

“Accused has been arrested within six hours of the commission of offence,” Police said.

“During the day, an incident was reported at Police Station Bakshi Nagar regarding a shootout at New Plot area over a parking Issue. Advocate Kanav Sharma was parking his vehicle in a street outside PDD linemen room which was objected to by one PDD employee Ravinder Singh, resulting in an altercation,” Police said.

During the arguments, according to police, a scuffle ensued between the duo. “Ravinder Singh took out his licenced pistol and fired two rounds over Kanav Sharma. He (Kanav) was immediately shifted to Sarwal hospital where he was provided first aid and later to GMC for further treatment. While Ravinder Singh ran away from the crime scene,” Police said.

After getting information, Police swung into action and immediately called FSL teams and crime photographers to the crime scene after securing it, while the hunt for the accused Ravinder Singh alias Kaka was immediately started.

“Police working as a team and using technical as well as human intelligence, nabbed the accused Ravinder Singh and the weapon used in the commission of crime was also recovered,” the official statement mentioned. 

Ravinder Singh is a permanent government employee and right now posted at Parade, Jammu and was performing his duties at New Plot. Kanav, district president of J&K Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, is son of senior BJP leader Chander Mohan Sharma.

In this regard, a case FIR No 01/2025 under section 109 BNS was registered at Police Station Bakshi Nagar.

“Investigation is going on,” Police said.
