Pawar backs Rahul Gandhi’s allegations against Election Commission
New Delhi, Aug 9: Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar has backed Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of large-scale electoral malpractice in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka, saying the Opposition will seek answers from the Election Commission.
The claims, which accuse the poll body of irregularities and favouring the BJP, have triggered a sharp political row, with the BJP accusing Gandhi of insulting voters and the EC demanding formal proof.
Pawar also alleged that before the 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections, as reported by national media, he and Gandhi were approached with an offer guaranteeing victory in 160 seats, which they declined. He called for a thorough probe into the issues raised, warning that doubts over the electoral process could undermine parliamentary democracy.
