Srinagar, Sep 9: A court in north Kashmir’s Pattan on Tuesday sentenced a man to six months imprisonment after convicting him in cheque bounce case, besides awarding Rs 8 lakh compensation to the complainant. Court of Sub judge/ Chief Judicial Magistrate Pattan Altaf Ahmed Khan convicted and sentenced Muhammad Yaseen Mir of Bochhoo Pattan in a case that was filed by Bashir Ahmed Mir of Pattan in 2021.

The accused had issued the cheque in favour of the complainant against an amount of Rs 5 lakh though the complainant had claimed dues of Rs 6 lakh.

The cheque was dishonoured as it could not be encashed at the Bank. After hearing the parties, the legal proceedings of the case culminated into the conviction of the accused. He has to undergo a sentence of six months and to pay a compensation of Rs 8 lakh to the complainant. Advocate Touseef Ahmed and Advocate Muneer Ahmed Dar represented the complainant during the trial.
