Patients, staff suffer as ACs fail at GMC Anantnag
Anantnag, Aug 07: Several wards including the causality ward and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, feel like a furnace due to the breakdown of air conditioners amidst searing temperatures.
However, senior officials said that they had given the administrative approval to carry out the repair work and the issue would be fixed soon.
According to the patients, the air conditioners (ACs) have not been working for the last few months, causing tremendous inconvenience to them.
“The causality ward is overrun with patients and their attendants. The non-functioning of ACs is adding to the patients' woes,” said Riyaz Ahmad, a patient’s attendant. He said that he twice took his patient outside the ward for a few minutes to escape the stifling heat.
Sources at GMC Anantnag told Greater Kashmir that around 38 ACs installed in different wards and ICUs are non-functional.
“It is not just the patients and their attendants, who are suffering, the staff is also affected,” they said.
However, a senior official said that the administrative approval had already been given to the Mechanical and Hospital Division for carrying out the necessary repairs.
“We have also released 50 percent of the total estimated cost,” the official said.
He said that the issue would be resolved soon.
