Partial power supply restored after 92-hours in Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Jammu
Rajouri, Sep 1: After nearly four days of complete blackout, partial electricity supply was restored early Monday in Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, and parts of Jammu district, following 92 hours of disruption caused by damage to a 220 KV transmission line near Jagti in Udhampur, officials said.
The restoration came at around 3 AM, ending 92 hours of shutdown that had thrown normal life out of gear across the affected region.
However, repeated delays pushed the restoration to Monday morning, leaving residents to struggle with the longest outage in recent times.
Authorities said the shutdown was necessitated to carry out major repairs on a damaged 220 kV transmission line tower near Jagti in Udhampur, which had suffered extensive damage in the recent floods.
Officials confirmed that only one out of the two supply circuits has been restored so far, stating that just half of the required electricity has returned to the affected districts.
"Efforts are underway to restore the second circuit at the earliest, but it would require another daytime shutdown for two days, and it will be done only during fair weather," officials said.
The unprecedented 92-hour electricity shutdown crippled life in Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi and parts of Jammu, with households, businesses and institutions left struggling.
Residents complained of immense hardship, saying the prolonged blackout not only halted daily routines but also caused serious inconvenience to patients, children, and the elderly.
