New Delhi, June 6: The 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, held in Brasilia on June 4–5, concluded with a strong joint condemnation of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Parliaments of all 10 BRICS member nations, including India, Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, Iran, UAE, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Indonesia, expressed solidarity with India and agreed to cooperate on adopting a unified policy of zero tolerance against terrorism.

The Indian Parliamentary Delegation, led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, played a key role in shaping the forum’s final joint declaration, which highlighted the need for collective action to curb terrorism globally. India’s proposals on cutting off financial networks supporting terrorism, enhancing intelligence sharing, preventing the misuse of emerging technologies, and strengthening investigative and judicial cooperation were widely welcomed and included in the consensus document. In his address, Om Birla reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong and consistent stand on giving a firm and befitting response to terrorism. India’s leadership and clarity on global peace, technological cooperation, and democratic values received special recognition from participating delegations.

At the closing session, India was formally handed over the chairmanship of the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, scheduled to be held in 2026. India will now lead efforts to deepen inter-parliamentary cooperation and address common global challenges through dialogue and coordination among BRICS nations.
