Parents Association Jammu lauds Transport Commissioner’s directive
Jammu, Dec 19: Parents Association Jammu has welcomed the directive of J&K Transport Commissioner Vishesh Mahajan to make CCTV compulsory in school buses.
President of Parents Association Jammu, Amit Kapoor, in a press conference held on Thursday, has demanded that an order should also be issued regarding fixing the fare vis-a-vis school buses.
“To curb the arbitrary fare of school buses, an order should also be issued to fix their fares. Installing CCTV cameras in school buses will save many precious lives, especially those of our children. This step is an important step towards increasing the safety of students and preventing tragic incidents related to school transport,” Kapoor said.
He said that this directive was in line with the guidelines given earlier by the Supreme Court of India, which emphasized on installing CCTV in school buses.
“Unfortunately, these instructions have not yet been fully implemented in this area. The installation of CCTV cameras will not only monitor the activities of drivers and co-drivers but will also help prevent over-speeding and irresponsible behaviour. It will also increase accountability of private buses and other vehicles hired by parents as they have been running without proper safety regulations till now,” Kapoor said.
