Srinagar, Nov 5: In response to the growing cancer burden in Jammu and Kashmir, Paras Health Srinagar organised a multidisciplinary symposium titled “Beating Cancer Together – Early Diagnosis, Prevention & Treatment” on Tuesday, aimed at fostering collaboration among specialists and advancing early detection and integrated cancer care.

The event brought together leading oncologists and specialists, including Dr Altaf Ramzan, Dr Saquib Banday, Dr Azhar Jan, Dr Shabnum, Dr Hamza, Dr Yasir, Dr Adil Ashraf, Dr Nayeem, Dr Sadia, Dr Irshad, and Dr Suhail, who highlighted the urgent need for awareness and screening to counter late-stage cancer diagnoses.

According to ICMR data, the Union Territory has seen a sharp rise in breast, colorectal, and lung cancer cases over the past decade, with nearly 70 per cent diagnosed at advanced stages. Experts at the symposium stressed that early screening and multidisciplinary coordination are key to improving patient survival and quality of life.

“Cancer care today is about teamwork, technology, and timeliness,” said Dr Murtuza Habib, Facility Director, Paras Health Srinagar. “Our goal is to ensure patients receive advanced treatment and emotional support within Kashmir, without the need to travel outside.”

Dr Saquib Banday, Associate Director, said Paras Health is committed to expanding cross-speciality collaboration and awareness. “Early detection remains our strongest weapon. By working together, we can transform cancer outcomes in the Valley,” he said.
