Paras Health Srinagar concludes month-long breast cancer awareness drive
Srinagar, Nov 3: Paras Health, Srinagar, successfully concluded its month-long Breast Cancer Awareness campaign with a special panel discussion held on October 31. The event brought together leading oncologists, gynaecologists, and healthcare professionals to stress the importance of early detection, regular screening, and public education in combating breast cancer.
A statement said that as part of the campaign, more than 1,000 women across the Kashmir Valley were screened, and over 15 health talks and camps were organised to promote preventive health practices.
“In India, one woman dies from breast cancer for every two newly diagnosed cases, making it one of the most pressing health concerns affecting women worldwide. Reinforcing its commitment to women’s health, Paras Health, Srinagar, launched the “For Women, By Women” Breast Cancer Care Team — a unique initiative ensuring that patients receive comprehensive care from consultation to rehabilitation entirely by women healthcare professionals in a supportive, gender-sensitive environment.”
The team comprises Dr Shabnum Bashir (Breast Oncosurgeon), Dr Iram and Dr Muqtasid (Anaesthesia), Dr Taranum and Dr Nidha Naseer (Radiology), Dt Aisha Tarmboo (Dietitian), Dr Nadia Jeelani (Pathology), Dr Arjumand (Physiotherapy), and Madeeha Mukhtar (Clinical Psychologist), offering integrated medical, emotional, and rehabilitative support under one roof.
Throughout October, the hospital premises were illuminated in pink to honour breast cancer warriors and survivors. The facility also offered discounted mammograms at Rs 999 and organised free breast screening camps in collaboration with women’s NGOs and community partners, combining outreach, education, and affordable screening to bridge the gap between awareness and action.
Dr Shabnum Bashir, Director of Surgical Oncology (Breast & Colorectal Cancers and Non-Cancer Disorders) at Paras Health, Srinagar, said, “In breast cancer, awareness and timing can literally save lives. Unfortunately, many women delay consultation due to lack of awareness or social stigma. Our campaign aimed to normalise conversations around breast health and encourage prompt medical attention. When detected early, breast cancer has a survival rate of over 90%, so regular screening must become a routine health practice.”
Facility Director Dr Murtuza Habib added, “At Paras Health, we believe prevention is the strongest form of healthcare. Our campaign not only spread awareness but also dispelled myths and empowered women to take charge of their health. Screening over 1,000 women in a single month reflects both our team’s dedication and the community’s trust. We remain committed to promoting preventive health programmes and ensuring access to quality, affordable care.”
